Iconic Bathurst cars back on track at 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival

Two iconic Bathurst race cars from the Group A and Group C eras of Australian touring cars, a Dick Johnson Racing Ford Sierra RS500 and Holden Dealer Team Holden VK Commodore, will return to the race track at the 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival on March 8 and 9.

Both cars will be attending the event courtesy of the Bowden’s collection, in the Touring Car Legends category alongside other Group A and Group C touring cars.

The Sierra RS500 returns to the track for the first time in more than a decade. Introduced by Dick Johnson Racing for the 1989 endurance events, it took a commanding win in the 1989 Bathurst 1000 with Dick Johnson and John Bowe. The car continued racing until the end of the Group A era in 1992, taking pole position at Bathurst and narrowly missing out on another win that year.

The VK Commodore ‘Big Banger’ also returns to the track for the first time in several years. It finished second in the Holden Dealer Team’s one-two formation finish at the 1984 Bathurst 1000, driven by John Harvey and David Parsons. With its flared guards and spoilers and dayglo livery, the VK Commodores are remembered as the ultimate Group C race cars and known as the ‘last of the Big Bangers’.

The 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival will once again feature various categories, ranging from Formula 1 cars, V8 Supercars, sportscars, touring cars, motorbikes and more with the action non-stop without a break in track activity at any stage of the day. Off track there will be car displays, kids' zones, bars and food trucks, exhibitors and traders, activations and more, in a picnic in the park setting.

Tickets are on sale now with weekend tickets and single-day tickets available, in addition to tickets to the Toyota Gazoo Racing Garden and Pagani VIP Suite hospitality offerings.
