The Gibson Motorsport-run turbocharged Skyline GT-R R32s won both the Australian Touring Car Championship and Bathurst 1000 in 1991 and 1992, dominating in the latter years of the Group A era of Australian touring cars.
The Skyline GT-R R32 was the first Japanese car to win the Bathurst 1000 when Jim Richards and Mark Skaife triumphed at Mount Panorama in 1991, in a record race time that stood for 19 years. Nissan then defended its Bathurst crown in 1992, with Richards and Skaife declared the winners after the Skyline GT-R R32 crashed in the wet conditions before the race was red flagged.
The Skyline GT-R R32 also competed and won for a final time at the non-championship Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide in the hands of Richards in 1992, returning to the circuit 33 years later at the 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival.
Nicknamed ‘Godzilla’ for its dominant performances, the Skyline GT-R R32s were devastatingly quick, featuring all-wheel-drive and a 2.6-litre twin-turbo straight six engine.
The 1991 and 1992 Skyline GT-R R32 were restored to their original liveries and specifications. They will feature in the Touring Car Legends category at the 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival, alongside the 1989 Bathurst 1000-winning Dick Johnson Racing Ford Sierra RS500, Holden Dealer Team ‘last of the Big Bangers’ Holden VK Commodore and more.
The 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival will once again feature various categories, ranging from Formula 1 cars, V8 Supercars, sportscars, touring cars, motorbikes and more with the action non-stop without a break in track activity at any stage of the day. Off track there will be car displays, kids' zones, bars and food trucks, exhibitors and traders, activations and more, in a picnic in the park setting.
